Today, over 100 children between the ages of 4-17
took a day off from “play,” to take part in a revenue generating initiative –
they launched their very first businesses at The Kiddo-preneur Summer Bazaar 2014 at the
Midtown Atrium of Robinsons Place Manila.
The Kiddo-preneur Bazaar, which started in 2011,
takes place bi-annually during the summer and during the Christmas break. It is
a venue where children can become entrepreneurs for a day. The children sign up
for a booth at this bazaar and the rest, is up to them.
Together with their other business partners
(usually their friends and or their siblings) and some assistance from their
parents, the kids set out to create a product to sell. Once they have this in
mind, they think of a business name, plan their marketing strategy, and price
their products. They then design eye-catching booths to attract customers, and
during the actual event, they do their best to win trophies for: the highest
sales, the best service, the best-decorated booth, and the best concept. It is
a highly creative process as it encourages kids to think out of the box to try
to find a product that people will need and want.
During the event itself, the children manage their
own cash boxes, dispense change, and they also chat up their customers to
further promote their products. Through this experience, the children
develop confidence, math and entrepreneurial skills, and they also learn the
value of a hard day’s work.
ANC Business Anchor, Maiki Oreta started
Kiddo-preneur in order to encourage children to become entrepreneurs. She says,
“When you expose your children to money and business early on, you spark in
them, an entrepreneurial spirit. This spirit is tough in the face of adversity,
thrives on healthy competition, and is eager to learn about the wonderful world
of business and all the opportunities it presents.”
The next Kiddo-preneur Bazaar will take place this
year, on November 23rd at the new Glorietta Activity Center across
the Raffles Hotel in Makati. If you would like to sign your kids up for this
event or if you’d like more information, contact Kiddo-preneur via kiddopreneur@gmail.com
or 0917-585-1081.
